Indications
- Treatment of infections caused by sensitive Gram-positive bacteria
- Treatment of infections caused by sensitive Gram-negative bacteria
- Upper respiratory tract infections
- Lower respiratory tract infections
- Urinary tract infections
- Skin and soft tissue infections
Pharmacology
- Semisynthetic broad spectrum bactericidal antibiotic
- Active against both gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms
- Inhibits cross-linking process in bacteria cell wall
- Main site of action is bacteria cell wall
- Active against penicillinase producing and nonproducing staphylococci
Dosage & Administration
- For oral administration in adults and children
- For urinary tract infections, respiratory tract infections, and skin and soft tissue infections
- Dosage adjustment for elderly, renal impairment, and hepatic function
- For injectable administration in adults and children
- Maximum daily dosage
Interaction
- Concomitant use of nephrotoxic drugs
- Enhanced risk of renal toxicity with diuretics and probenecid
Contraindications
- Not to be used in patients with known or suspected hypersensitivity to cephalosporins
