Indications

  • Treatment of infections caused by sensitive Gram-positive bacteria
  • Treatment of infections caused by sensitive Gram-negative bacteria
  • Upper respiratory tract infections
  • Lower respiratory tract infections
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Skin and soft tissue infections

Pharmacology

  • Semisynthetic broad spectrum bactericidal antibiotic
  • Active against both gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms
  • Inhibits cross-linking process in bacteria cell wall
  • Main site of action is bacteria cell wall
  • Active against penicillinase producing and nonproducing staphylococci

Dosage & Administration

  • For oral administration in adults and children
  • For urinary tract infections, respiratory tract infections, and skin and soft tissue infections
  • Dosage adjustment for elderly, renal impairment, and hepatic function
  • For injectable administration in adults and children
  • Maximum daily dosage

Interaction

  • Concomitant use of nephrotoxic drugs
  • Enhanced risk of renal toxicity with diuretics and probenecid

Contraindications

  • Not to be used in patients with known or suspected hypersensitivity to cephalosporins

  • May cause false positive urine glucose result
