Medicine Details

Indications

  • Treatment of infections caused by sensitive Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria
  • Upper respiratory tract infections
  • Lower respiratory tract infections
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Skin and soft tissue infections
  • Susceptible microorganisms (Staphylococci, Streptococci, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella spp, etc.)

Pharmacology

  • Semisynthetic broad spectrum bactericidal antibiotic
  • Active against both gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms
  • Inhibition of cross-linking process in cell wall of bacteria
  • Bacteria lysis due to external osmotic pressure

Dosage & Administration

  • Oral administration for adults and children
  • Injectable administration for adults and children
  • Recommended doses for urinary tract, respiratory tract, and skin/soft tissue infections
  • Dosage adjustment for renal impairment
  • Maximum daily dosage for children

Interaction

  • Increased risk of kidney damage with nephrotoxic drugs
  • Enhanced renal toxicity with diuretics and probenecid
