Sefro 250 mg (Capsule)

Indications

• Treatment of infections caused by sensitive Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria
• Upper respiratory tract infections like sinusitis, pharyngitis, and otitis media
• Lower respiratory tract infections like bronchitis and pneumonia
• Urinary tract infections including cystitis and pyelonephritis
• Skin and soft tissue infections such as cellulitis and furunculosis

Pharmacology

• Semisynthetic broad-spectrum bactericidal antibiotic
• Active against both gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms
• Inhibits cross-linking process in bacteria cell walls
• Cell wall lysis due to external osmotic pressure

Dosage & Administration

• Oral administration for adults and children
• Dosage based on infection severity and site
• Injectable administration for adults and children
• Dosage adjustment necessary for renal impairment
• Maximum daily dosage: 4 gm

Interaction

• Nephrotoxic drugs may increase risk of kidney damage
• Diuretics and probenecid enhance possibility of renal toxicity

Contraindications

• Not to be used in patients with known or suspected hypersensitivity to cephalosporins

Precautions & Warnings

• Prolonged use may result in the development of superinfection
• Administer with care to patients hypersensitive to penicillins
• May cause false positive urine glucose result

• Caution advised for paediatric dosages

Overdose Effects

• Non-specific symptoms like nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea
• Gastric lavage necessary for large ingestions

Storage Conditions

• Sefro Suspension should be freshly prepared
• Reconstituted Suspension should be used within 7 days at room temperature
• Sefro Injection solutions should be used within 2 hours at room temperature
• Reconstituted solutions may vary in color
• Do not use later than the date of expiry
