Description
- Cephradine is a semisynthetic broad spectrum bactericidal antibiotic
- Active against both gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms
- Indicated for the treatment of infections caused by sensitive Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria
- Contraindicated in patients with known or suspected hypersensitivity to cephalosporins
- Can be administered orally and via injection

Recommended Dosage
- Adults: 500mg-1g four times daily or as directed by a healthcare professional
- Children: 25-50mg/kg given in two or four equally divided doses or as directed by a healthcare professional
Pharmacological Action
- Inhibits cross-linking process in the cell wall of bacteria
- Causes lysis of bacteria due to external osmotic pressure

Interaction
- Concomitant use of nephrotoxic drugs with Cefradine may increase the risk of kidney damage
- Diuretics and probenecid enhanced the possibility of renal toxicity

- May cause a false positive urine glucose result with certain testing methods
- Dosage adjustment necessary in renal impairment
- Contains lactose, caution for patients with rare hereditary problems
Use in Special Populations
- Dosage adjustments for patients with renal impairment
- Higher doses may be required for chronic or severe infections
- Regular bacteriological and clinical monitoring required for chronic urinary tract infections
- Paediatric dosages should not exceed those specified for adults
Overdose Effects
- Non-specific symptoms including nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, and gastric upsets
- Treatment is mainly supportive, gastric lavage may be necessary if a large amount has been ingested

Storage Conditions
- Suspension should be freshly prepared and used within specified timeframes
- Injection solutions should be used within 2 hours when kept at room temperature
- Retains potency for 12 hours when stored at 5°C
- Do not use later than the date of expiry
