Indications
- Treatment of infections caused by sensitive Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria
- Upper respiratory tract infections
- Lower respiratory tract infections
- Urinary tract infections
- Skin and soft tissue infections
Pharmacology
- Semisynthetic broad spectrum bactericidal antibiotic
- Active against both gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms
- Inhibits cross-linking process in bacterial cell walls
Dosage & Administration
- Oral administration for adults and children
- Dosage adjustments for elderly and patients with impaired renal or hepatic function
- Injectable administration for adults and children
- Prophylactic dose for preoperative use
Interaction
- Increased risk of kidney damage with concomitant use of nephrotoxic drugs
- Enhanced renal toxicity with diuretics and probenecid
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins
Side Effects
- Gastro-intestinal disturbances
- Hypersensitivity reactions
- Skin reactions
- Rare side effects including glossitis, heartburn, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, etc.
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Safety not established in pregnancy
- Excreted in breast milk
- Caution advised for lactating mothers
Precautions & Warnings
- Risk of superinfection with prolonged use
- Risk of cross-sensitivity between beta-lactam antibiotics
- May cause false positive urine glucose result
- Lactose content and contraindications for certain rare hereditary problems
Use in Special Populations
- Recommended doses for patients with renal impairment
- Additional dosing information for haemodialysis patients
- Higher doses may be required for chronic or severe infections
Overdose Effects
- Non-specific symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, and gastric upsets
- Supportive treatment required

Storage Conditions
- Reconstituted Suspension should be used within 7-14 days based on storage temperature
- Injection solutions should be used within 2 hours if at room temperature
- Retain potency for 12 hours when stored at 5°C
- Do not use beyond expiry date
- Keep out of reach of children
- Dispensed only on prescription
