Precautions and Warnings
- Caution in patients hypersensitive to penicillins
- Cephalosporin antibiotics may cause positive result in Coombs’ testing
- May cause false positive urine glucose result in Benedict’s or Fehling’s solution tests
- Dosage adjustment necessary in renal impairment
- Contains lactose; caution in patients with hereditary problems of galactose intolerance
Use in Special Populations
- Recommended doses for patients with renal impairment and on haemodialysis
- Higher doses may be required for chronic or severe infections
- Treatment duration at least 2 to 3 days after symptoms have resolved or bacteria eradicated
Overdose Effects
- Non-specific symptoms like nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, and gastric upsets
- Supportive treatment required
- Gastric lavage may be necessary
