Indications
- Treatment of infections caused by sensitive Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria
- Upper respiratory tract infections
- Lower respiratory tract infections
- Urinary tract infections
- Skin and soft tissue infections
Pharmacology
Semisynthetic broad spectrum bactericidal antibiotic effective against gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms
Dosage & Administration
- Adults:
- 500mg-1g for urinary tract infections
- 250-500mg for respiratory tract infections
- 250-500mg for skin and soft tissue infections
- Children:
- 25-50mg/kg total daily dose
- 75-100mg/kg for otitis media
- Elderly: Normal adult dose appropriate
- Injectable administration:
- 2-4 gm daily for adults
- 50-100 mg/kg daily for children
Interaction
Risk of kidney damage with concomitant use of nephrotoxic drugs
Contraindications
Not to be used in patients with known or suspected hypersensitivity to cephalosporins
