Indications

  • Treatment of infections caused by sensitive Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria
  • Upper respiratory tract infections
  • Lower respiratory tract infections
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Skin and soft tissue infections

Pharmacology

  • Broad spectrum bactericidal antibiotic
  • Active against gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms
  • Inhibition of cross-linking process in bacterial cell walls

Dosage & Administration

  • Oral administration for adults and children
  • Different dosage for urinary tract, respiratory tract, and skin infections
  • Dosage adjustment for elderly and patients with impaired renal or hepatic function
  • Injectable administration for adults and children
  • Prophylactic dose for preoperative use

Interaction

  • Increased risk of kidney damage when used concomitantly with nephrotoxic drugs
  • Enhanced risk of renal toxicity with diuretics and probenecid

Contraindications

  • Not to be used in patients with known or suspected hypersensitivity to cephalosporins
