Indications

  • Treatment of upper respiratory tract infections
  • Treatment of lower respiratory tract infections
  • Treatment of urinary tract infections
  • Treatment of skin and soft tissue infections
  • Effective against Staphylococci bacteria
  • Effective against Streptococci bacteria
  • Effective against E. coli bacteria
  • Effective against Klebsiella bacteria
  • Effective against Proteus mirabilis bacteria
  • Effective against Haemophilus influenzae bacteria
  • Effective against Shigella bacteria
  • Effective against Salmonella bacteria
  • Effective against Neisseria bacteria

Pharmacology

  • Broad spectrum bactericidal antibiotic
  • Active against both gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms
  • Effective against penicillinase producing staphylococci
  • Inhibits cross-linking process in bacterial cell walls

Dosage & Administration

  • Oral administration for adults and children
  • Injectable administration for adults and children
  • Dosage adjustment for renal impairment
  • Maximum daily dosage of 4 gm

Interaction

  • Increased risk of kidney damage with nephrotoxic drugs
  • Enhanced renal toxicity with diuretics and probenecid

  • Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins

Precautions & Warnings

  • Risk of cross-sensitivity between beta-lactam antibiotics
  • Positive result in Coombs’ testing
  • May cause false positive urine glucose result
  • Dosage adjustment in renal impairment
  • Contains lactose

Use in Special Populations

  • Recommended doses for patients on haemodialysis
  • Higher doses for chronic or severe infections
  • Regular bacteriological and clinical monitoring for urinary tract infections

Overdose Effects

  • Non-specific symptoms like nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea
  • Supportive treatment
  • Gastric lavage if large amount ingested

Storage Conditions

  • Freshly prepare suspension
  • Use reconstituted Suspension within 7-14 days
  • Use Injection solutions within 2 hours or 12 hours with refrigeration
