Indications
- Essential hypertension
- Angina pectoris
- Vasospastic angina
Pharmacology
- Calcium-channel blocker
- Vasodilation
- Reduced peripheral resistance
- Increased coronary blood flow
- Myocardial oxygen supply
Dosage & Administration
- Usual dose 5mg once daily
- Maximum dose 10mg once daily
- May be taken without regard to meals
Interaction
- Potentially hazardous interactions with p-blockers
- No interaction with Digoxin
- No interaction with Cimetidine
- No significant alteration with Warfarin
- Food does not alter absorption rate
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to dihydropyridine derivatives
- Pregnant woman

- No adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women

Use in Special Populations
- Dosing for children with hypertension
- Effect on blood pressure in patients less than 6 years is unknown
- Elderly tolerance to Vesocal
- Normal dosage for renal impairment
- Caution in hepatic impairment
Overdose Effects
- Excessive peripheral vasodilatation
- Reflex tachycardia
- Marked and prolonged systemic hypotension
- Management of hypotension due to amlodipine overdosage
