Dosage & Administration

  • Adult dosage: 250 mg every 8 hours
  • Severe infections may require doubled doses
  • Maximum dosage of 4 g/day
  • Paediatric dosage: 20 mg/kg/day
  • Paediatric dosage for serious infections: 40 mg/kg/day
  • Maximum paediatric dosage: 1 g/day
  • Safety and effectiveness for infants under 1 month not established
  • Dosage adjustments for renal impairment
  • Dosage recommendations for haemodialysis patients
  • No identified differences in responses between elderly and younger patients

Interaction

  • False-positive reaction for glucose in the urine
