Description
- Cefaclor is a second generation cephalosporin antibiotic with a broad spectrum of activity.
Indications
- Respiratory tract infections
- Otitis media
- Pharyngitis
- Tonsillitis
- Urinary tract infections
- Skin and skin structure infections
Pharmacology
- Stability against b-lactamase inactivation
- Active against Alpha and beta haemolytic Streptococci, Staphylococci, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Branhamella catarrhalis, Escherichia coli, Proteus mirabilis, Klebsiella species, Haemophilus influenzae
Dosage and administration
- Adult dose: 250 mg every 8 hours
- Pediatric dose: 20 mg/kg/day
- Dosage adjustments in renal impairment
- Administration in patients undergoing haemodialysis
- Use in geriatric patients
Interaction
- False-positive reaction for glucose in urine with certain tests
- Potential interaction with oral anticoagulants like Warfarin
Contraindications
- Known allergy to the Cephalosporin group of antibiotics
