Indications
- Treatment of infections caused by sensitive bacteria
- Pharyngitis/Tonsillitis caused by Streptococcus pyogenes
- Acute Bacterial Otitis Media caused by various bacteria
- Acute bacterial maxillary sinusitis caused by specific bacteria
- Lower respiratory tract infections including pneumoniae caused by various bacteria
- Skin and skin-structure infections caused by specific bacteria

- Bone and Joint Infections caused by specific bacteria
- Gonorrhoea caused by specific bacteria
- Early Lyme Disease caused by Borrelia burgdorferi
Pharmacology
- Broad-spectrum bactericidal activity against a wide range of common pathogens
- Good stability to bacterial β-lactamase
Dosage
- Dosage for adolescents and adults (tablet or suspension)
- Dosage for paediatric patients (tablet or suspension)
- Dosage for parenteral use (adults and children)
- Dosage for meningitis (adults, children, neonate)
- Dosage for bone and joint infections (adults, children)
Administration
- Use of freshly reconstituted solution
- Potency maintenance for at least 24 hours at room temperature or 48 hours at 5°C

Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients with known allergy to Cephalosporins
Side Effects
- Mild and transient side effects
- Adverse effects reported include rashes and gastrointestinal disturbances
- Prolonged use may result in the overgrowth of non susceptible organisms
Pregnancy & Lactation
- US FDA pregnancy category B
- No adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women
- Excretion in human milk
- Caution advised when administered to a nursing woman
Precautions & Warnings
- Given with care to patients receiving concurrent treatment with potent diuretics & history of colitis
- May be given safely to patients hypersensitive to penicillin

- Not likely to be a problem at recommended dose levels
