Indications
- Treatment of infections caused by sensitive bacteria
- Pharyngitis/Tonsillitis caused by Streptococcus pyogenes
- Acute Bacterial Otitis Media caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis
- Acute bacterial maxillary sinusitis
- Lower respiratory tract infections including pneumoniae
- Skin and skin-structure infections
- Urinary tract infections
- Bone and Joint Infections
- Gonorrhoea caused by penicillinase-producing and non-penicillinase producing strains of Neisseria gonorrhoeae
- Early Lyme Disease (erythema migrans) caused by Borrelia burgdorferi
Pharmacology
- Broad-spectrum bactericidal activity
- Good stability to bacterial beta-lactamase
- Active against many ampicillin-resistant and amoxycillin-resistant strains
Dosage
- Adolescents and adults dosage
- Paediatric patients dosage
- Tablet or Suspension dosage
- Parenteral dosage
- Dosage for specific conditions like MDR Typhoid Fever, Community acquired pneumonia, Early Lyme disease, etc.
Administration
- Use of freshly reconstituted solution is recommended
- Potency maintenance for at least 24 hours at room temperature or 48 hours at 5 degrees C

- No potentially hazardous interactions reported
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients with known allergy to Cephalosporins
Side Effects
- Adverse effects occurred infrequently
- Mild and transient in nature
- Rashes
- Gastrointestinal disturbances
- Prolonged use may result in the overgrowth of non susceptible organisms e.g. Candida
Pregnancy & Lactation
- US FDA pregnancy category B
- No adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women
- Caution should be exercised when administered to a nursing woman
Precautions & Warnings
- Should be given with care to patients receiving concurrent treatment with potent diuretics
- History of colitis
- Cross reactions with penicillin have been reported
- Not likely to be a problem at the recommended dose levels
