Indications
- Treatment of infections caused by sensitive bacteria
- Pharyngitis/Tonsillitis caused by Streptococcus pyogenes
- Acute Bacterial Otitis Media caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis
- Acute bacterial maxillary sinusitis caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae or Haemophilus influenzae
- Lower respiratory tract infections including pneumoniae, caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Klebsiella spp., Staphylococcus aureus, E. coli
- Skin and skin-structure infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus or Streptococcus pyogenes
- Urinary tract infections caused by E.coli or Klebsiella pneumoniae
- Bone and Joint Infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus
- Gonorrhoea caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae
- Early Lyme Disease (erythema migrans) caused by Borrelia burgdorferi
Pharmacology
- Broad-spectrum bactericidal activity
- Good stability to bacterial β-lactamase
- Effective against many ampicillin-resistant and amoxycillin-resistant strains
Dosage
- For Adolescents and adults (13 years and older)
- For Paediatric Patients (3 months to 12 years)
- Tablet or Suspension administration
- Parenteral administration for adults, children, and neonates
Administration
- Freshly reconstituted solution recommended
- Potency maintenance for at least 24 hours at room temperature or 48 hours at 5° C

Contraindications
- Known allergy to Cephalosporins
Side Effects
- Infrequent and mild adverse effects
- Transient rashes and gastrointestinal disturbances
- Prolonged use may result in non-susceptible organism overgrowth e.g. Candida
Pregnancy & Lactation
- US FDA pregnancy category B
- No adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women
- Excretion in human milk
- Caution in nursing women
Precautions & Warnings
- Care needed with concurrent treatment of potent diuretics & history of colitis
- Cephalosporin antibiotics may be given to patients hypersensitive to penicillin
- Low likelihood of cross reactions at recommended dose levels
