Indications
- Treatment of infections caused by sensitive bacteria
- Pharyngitis/Tonsillitis caused by Streptococcus pyogenes
- Acute Bacterial Otitis Media caused by various strains
- Lower respiratory tract infections including pneumoniae
- Skin and skin-structure infections
- Urinary tract infections
- Bone and Joint Infections
- Gonorrhoea treatment
- Early Lyme Disease (erythema migrans) treatment
Pharmacology
- Broad-spectrum bactericidal activity
- Good stability to bacterial beta-lactamase
- Active against ampicillin-resistant and amoxycillin-resistant strains
Dosage
- Dosage for Adolescents and adults (13 years and older)
- Dosage for Paediatric Patients (3 months to 12 years)
- Parenteral dosage for Adults
- Parenteral dosage for Children (above 3 months of age)
- Recommended dosage for Meningitis
- Recommended dosage for bone and joint infections
Administration
- Use of freshly reconstituted solution is recommended
- Potency maintenance for at least 24 hours at room temperature or 48 hours at 5 degree Celsius

Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients with known allergy to Cephalosporins
Side Effects
- Infrequent and generally mild and transient adverse effects
- Reported effects include rashes, gastrointestinal disturbances, and overgrowth of non susceptible organisms

- No adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women
- Cautious use during pregnancy and lactation
Precautions & Warnings
- To be used with care in patients receiving concurrent treatment with potent diuretics and those with a history of colitis
- May be given safely to patients hypersensitive to penicillin with low risk of cross reactions
