Indications
- Treatment of infections caused by sensitive bacteria
- Pharyngitis/Tonsillitis caused by Streptococcus pyogenes
- Acute Bacterial Otitis Media caused by various bacteria
- Skin and skin-structure infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus or Streptococcus pyogenes
- Urinary tract infections caused by E. coli or Klebsiella pneumoniae
- Gonorrhoea caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae
- Early Lyme Disease (erythema migrans) caused by Borrelia burgdorferi
Pharmacology
Broad-spectrum bactericidal activity against a wide range of common pathogens, good stability to bacterial β-lactamase
Dosage
- Tablet or Suspension:
- Adolescents and adults (13 years and older): 250 mg b.i.d. for various durations based on infection type
- Paediatric Patients (3 months to 12 years): Dose based on infection type and weight
- Parenteral:
- Adult: 750 mg-1.5 gm three times daily by IM or IV injection
- Children (above 3 months of age): 30 - 100 mg/kg/day given in 3 or 4 equally divided doses
Administration
Use of freshly reconstituted solution is recommended, maintains potency for at least 24 hours at room temperature or 48 hours at 5<sup>o</sup> C

Contraindications
Contraindicated in patients with known allergy to Cephalosporins

Rashes, gastrointestinal disturbances, overgrowth of non susceptible organisms

Precautions & Warnings
Care for patients receiving concurrent treatment with potent diuretics, caution for nursing women
