Indications
- Treatment of infections caused by sensitive bacteria
- Pharyngitis/Tonsillitis caused by Streptococcus pyogenes
- Acute Bacterial Otitis Media caused by various bacteria
- Lower respiratory tract infections including pneumoniae
- Skin and skin-structure infections caused by specific bacteria
- Urinary tract infections caused by specific bacteria
- Bone and Joint Infections caused by specific bacteria
- Gonorrhoea caused by specific strains of bacteria
- Early Lyme Disease caused by Borrelia burgdorferi
Pharmacology
- Broad-spectrum bactericidal activity
- Good stability to bacterial β-lactamase
- Active against ampicillin-resistant and amoxycillin-resistant strains
Dosage
- Adolescents and adults dosage for different infections
- Paediatric Patients dosage for different infections
- Parenteral dosage for adults, children, neonates in different infections
Administration
Use of freshly reconstituted solution is recommended

Contraindications
Contraindicated in patients with known allergy to Cephalosporins
Side Effects
- Infrequent and mild adverse effects
- Effects reported include rashes and gastrointestinal disturbances
- Prolonged use may result in overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms e.g. Candida
Pregnancy & Lactation
- US FDA pregnancy category B
- No adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women
- Excreted in human milk, caution in nursing women

- Caution with concurrent treatment with potent diuretics & history of colitis
- Cross reactions with penicillin reported
- Likely safe for patients hypersensitive to penicillin at recommended dose levels
