Description
- Ceclav is indicated for the treatment of infections caused by sensitive bacteria.
- Active ingredients: Cefuroxime, Clavulanic acid
- Therapeutic Class: Second generation Cephalosporins
DosageAndAdministration
- For adolescents and adults (13 years and older): 250 mg b.i.d. for 5-10 days for various infections.
- For pediatric patients (3 months to 12 years): Dosage varies based on specific infections.
- Cefuroxime-Clavulanic Acid tablet may be taken without regard of food.

- Pharyngitis/Tonsillitis
- Acute Bacterial Otitis Media
- Acute bacterial maxillary sinusitis
- Lower respiratory tract infections
- Uncomplicated skin and skin-structure infections
- Uncomplicated urinary tract infections
- Bone and Joint Infections
- Uncomplicated Gonorrhoea
- Early Lyme Disease (erythema migrans)
- Septicemia
- Meningitis
- Switch therapy (Injectable to oral)
ModeOfAction
- Cefuroxime inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by interfering with the transpeptidation process.
- Clavulanic acid irreversibly binds and inactivates beta-lactamase enzymes, protecting Cefuroxime from degradation by beta lactamase enzymes.
Interaction
- Concomitant administration of probenecid with Cefuroxime-Clavulanic Acid increases the area under the serum concentration versus time curve by 50%.
- Drug that reduces gastric acidity may result in a lower bioavailability of Cefuroxime.
Contraindications
- Known allergy to cephalosporin
- Pseudomembranous Colitis

- Given with care to patients with history of colitis.
