Indications
- Pharyngitis/Tonsillitis caused by Streptococcus pyogenes
- Acute Bacterial Otitis Media caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae
- Acute bacterial maxillary sinusitis caused by Haemophilus influenzae
- Lower respiratory tract infections including pneumonia caused by Klebsiella spp.
- Acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis
- Uncomplicated skin and skin-structure infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus
- Uncomplicated urinary tract infections caused by E.coli or Klebsiella pneumoniae
- Bone and Joint Infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus
- Uncomplicated Gonorrhoea caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae
- Early Lyme Disease (erythema migrans) caused by Borrelia burgdorferi
- Septicemia caused by Staphylococcus aureus
- Meningitis caused by Neisseria meningitidis
Pharmacology
- Bactericidal activity against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative susceptible organisms
- Inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by interfering with the transpeptidation process
- Clavulanic acid provides protection from degradation by beta lactamase enzymes
Dosage & Administration
- Dosage for Adolescents and adults
- Dosage for Paediatric Patients
- Can be taken without regard of food
Interaction
- Concomitant administration of probenecid may increase serum concentration
- Drugs that reduce gastric acidity may lower bioavailability
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients with known allergy to cephalosporin & in patients with Pseudomembranous Colitis

- Avoid in first trimester if possible
- Safe to use in later pregnancy for treating urinary and other infections
- Excreted into the breast milk in small quantities
Precautions & Warnings
- Given with care to patients receiving concurrent treatment with potent diuretics
- Given with care to patients with history of colitis
