Description
- Clacef 250 mg Tablet is indicated for the treatment of infections caused by sensitive bacteria.
Dosage
- 250 mg b.i.d. for 5-10 days
- 20 mg/kg/day b.i.d for 5-10 days
- 30 mg/kg/day b.i.d for 10 days
- 500 mg b.i.d. for 20 days
- 1000 mg b.i.d. Single dose
- 500 mg b.i.d. for 5-10 days
- 500 mg b.i.d. for 10-14 days
- 250-500 mg b.i.d. for 10 days
- 250 mg b.i.d. for 10 days
Pharmacology
- Bactericidal second generation cephalosporin antibiotic active against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative susceptible organisms
- Inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by interfering with the transpeptidation process
- Clavulanic acid is a beta lactamase inhibitor that provides protection of Cefuroxime from degradation by beta lactamase enzymes

- Pharyngitis/Tonsillitis
- Acute Bacterial Otitis Media
- Acute bacterial maxillary sinusitis
- Lower respiratory tract infections including pneumoniae
- Acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis
- Uncomplicated skin and skin-structure infections
- Uncomplicated urinary tract infections
- Bone and Joint Infections
- Uncomplicated Gonorrhoea
- Early Lyme Disease (erythema migrans)
- Septicemia
- Meningitis
- Switch therapy (Injectable to oral)
Interaction
- Concomitant administration of probenecid with Cefuroxime-Clavulanic Acid increases the area under the serum concentration versus time curve by 50%
- Drug that reduces gastric acidity may result in a lower bioavailability of Cefuroxime
Contraindications
- Known allergy to cephalosporin
- Pseudomembranous Colitis

- Should be given with care to patients receiving concurrent treatment with potent diuretics
- History of colitis
