Pharmacology
- Cefuroxime is a bactericidal second generation cephalosporin antibiotic active against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative susceptible organisms including many beta-lactamase producing strains. Clavulanic acid is a beta lactamase inhibitor that protects Cefuroxime from degradation by beta lactamase enzymes.
Dosage & Administration
- The dosage varies for different infections and age groups. For adults, it ranges from 250-1000 mg b.i.d. for 5-20 days depending on the infection. For pediatric patients, the dosage is based on weight and ranges from 20-30 mg/kg/day b.i.d.

- Concomitant administration of probenecid increases the serum concentration of Cefuroxime-Clavulanic Acid by 50%. Gastric acidity-reducing drugs may lower bioavailability of Cefuroxime.
