Pharmacology
- Semisynthetic third generation oral cephalosporin antibiotic
- Broad spectrum bactericidal activity
- Inhibition of cell wall synthesis
- Effective against b-lactamase producing strains
Dosage & Administration
- Total Daily Dose: 600 mg
- Dosage Schedule:
- Acute Exacerbations of Chronic Bronchitis:
- 300 mg two times daily
- 600 mg once daily
- Pharyngitis/Tonsillitis: 300 mg two times daily or 600 mg once daily
- Acute Bacterial Otitis Media:
- 7mg/kg two times daily
- 14 mg/kg once daily
- Acute Maxillary Sinusitis: 300 mg two times daily or 600 mg once daily
- Community Acquired Pneumonia: 300mg two times daily
- Uncomplicated Skin and Skin Structure Infections: 7mg/kg two times daily

- Total Daily Dose: 14 mg/kg body weight up to a maximum dose of 600 mg per day

- Direction for Reconstitution: Shake the bottle well, add boiled and cooled water, use within 10-14 days based on storage conditions
Interaction
- Antacids: Take at least 2 hours interval of antacid administration
- Iron supplement: Take at least 2 hours interval of iron supplement administration
- Probencid: Inhibits the renal excretion of Cefexta
Contraindications
Known allergy to the cephalosporin class of antibiotics

- Usage during Pregnancy: Only if clearly needed

Precautions & Warnings
- Prescribed with caution in individuals with history of colitis
- Reduce total daily dose in patients with transient or persistent renal insufficiency
