Pharmacology
Semisynthetic third generation oral cephalosporin antibiotic with broad-spectrum bactericidal activity
Dosage & Administration
- Total Daily Dose: 600 mg
- Dosage Schedule:
- Acute Exacerbations of Chronic Bronchitis:
- 300 mg two times daily or 600 mg once daily
- 5 to 10 days
- Pharyngitis/Tonsillitis:
- 300 mg two times daily or 600 mg once daily
- Acute Bacterial Otitis Media:
- 300 mg two times daily or 600 mg once daily
- 10 days
- Acute Maxillary Sinusitis:
- 300 mg two times daily or 600 mg once daily
- 10 days
- Community Acquired Pneumonia:
- 300 mg two times daily
- 10 days
- Uncomplicated Skin and Skin Structure Infections:
- 300 mg two times daily

- 7mg/kg two times or 14 mg/kg once daily

- 7mg/kg two times daily
- 10 days
- Direction for Reconstitution: Shake the bottle well, reconstituted suspension should be used within 10 days if kept at room temperature or within 14 days if kept in a refrigerator
- Acute Bacterial Otitis Media:
Interaction
- Antacids: Take Cefexta at least 2 hours interval of antacid administration
- Iron supplement: Take Cefexta at least 2 hours interval of iron supplement administration
- Probencid: Inhibits the renal excretion of Cefexta
Contraindications
Contraindicated in patients with known allergy to the cephalosporin class of antibiotics

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Pregnancy Category: B
- Usage During Pregnancy: Use only if clearly needed
- Breastfeeding: Cefdinir not detected in breast milk after administration of single 600 mg doses
Precautions & Warnings
- Prescribed with caution in individuals with history of colitis
- Total daily dose should be reduced in patients with transient or persistent renal insufficiency (creatinine clearance <30 ml/min)
