Indications

Pharmacology

  • Semisynthetic third generation oral cephalosporin antibiotic
  • Broad spectrum bactericidal activity against common pathogens
  • Inhibition of cell wall synthesis

Dosage & Administration

  • Type of infection:
    • Acute Exacerbations of Chronic Bronchitis
    • Pharyngitis/Tonsillitis
    • Acute Bacterial Otitis Media
    • Acute Maxillary Sinusitis
    • Community Acquired Pneumonia
    • Uncomplicated Skin and Skin Structure Infections
  • Dosage: 300mg two times daily or 600 mg once daily
  • Duration: 5 to 10 days

Powder for Oral Suspension Dosage

  • Type of infection:
    • Acute Bacterial Otitis Media
    • Pharyngitis/Tonsillitis
    • Acute Maxillary Sinusitis
    • Uncomplicated Skin and Skin Structure Infections
  • Dosage: 7mg/kg two times or 14 mg/kg once daily
  • Duration: 5 to 10 days
  • Reconstitution: Shake the bottle well before use, use within 10-14 days

Interaction

  • Antacids: Take at least 2 hours interval of antacid administration
  • Iron supplement: Take at least 2 hours interval of iron supplement administration
  • Probencid: Inhibits the renal excretion of Efdinir

Contraindications

Known allergy to the cephalosporin class of antibiotics

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • Pregnancy category: B
  • Usage during pregnancy: Only if clearly needed

  • Prescribed with caution in individuals with a history of colitis
  • Dosage reduction in patients with renal insufficiency
