Indications

Pharmacology
- Broad Spectrum Third Generation Cephalosporin Antibiotic
- Prodrug Hydrolyzed by Esterases
- Bactericidal Activity Against Gram-Positive and Gram-Negative Pathogens
- Inhibition of Cell Wall Synthesis via Affinity for Penicillin-Binding Proteins (PBPs)
- Stable in the Presence of Various ß-lactamases
Dosage & Administration
- Should be Taken After Meals
- Community-Acquired Pneumonia: 400 mg Twice Daily for 14 Days
- Acute Exacerbation of Chronic Bronchitis: 400 mg Twice Daily for 10 Days
- Pharyngotonsillitis and Acute Sinusitis: 200 mg Twice Daily for 10 Days
- Uncomplicated Skin and Soft Structure Infections: 200 mg Twice Daily for 10 Days
Interaction
- Reduced Oral Absorption with Antacids and Famotidine (Intravenous Administration)
- Increased Plasma Exposure with Probenecid Co-administration
- No Effect on the Pharmacokinetics of Ethinyl Estradiol
Contraindications
- Known Allergy to Cephalosporin Class of Antibiotics or Any of its Components
- Contains Sodium Caseinate, a Milk Protein
- Contradiction for Patients with Milk Protein Hypersensitivity (Not Lactose Intolerance)

- Not Recommended for Pediatric Patients Less Than 12 Years of Age
- No Dose Adjustments Necessary in Geriatric Patients with Normal Renal Function
- Dose Adjustments for Patients with Renal Insufficiency
- No Dose Adjustments Necessary for Patients with Mild or Moderate Hepatic Impairment
Overdose Effects
- Adverse Effects May Include Nausea, Vomiting, Epigastric Distress, Diarrhea, Convulsions
- Hemodialysis May Aid in Removal from Body, Especially with Compromised Renal Function
