Description
Bestcef is an orally active cephalosporin antibiotic with bactericidal activity against a wide variety of Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms. It is indicated for the treatment of Upper Respiratory Tract Infections, Lower Respiratory Tract Infections, Urinary Tract Infections, and more.
Dosage
Adult dosage is 200-400 mg daily for 7 days, and may be continued for up to 14 days if required.
Pharmacology
Cefixime is a third generation semisynthetic cephalosporin antibiotic for oral administration which interferes with the synthesis of bacterial cell wall.
Interaction with anticoagulants
Increases in prothrombin times have been noted in some patients, so caution is advised in patients receiving anticoagulant therapy.
Contraindications
Not to be used in patients with known hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics.

Pregnancy and lactation
Caution should be exercised when administered to pregnant or nursing women.
Precautions
Use with caution in patients with renal impairment and those who have shown hypersensitivity to other drugs. Use in pregnancy and lactation should be avoided.
Overdose effects
Gastric Lavage may be indicated; otherwise, no specific antidote exists. Bestcef is not removed in significant quantities from the circulation by hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis.

Category B: No adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. Should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed.
