Mode of Action
- Bactericidal action
- Interferes in bacterial cell wall synthesis
- Stable in the presence of Beta-lactamase enzyme
Absorption
- 40-50% absorption with or without food
Recommended Adult Dosage
- 200-400 mg daily
Elderly Dosage
- Same as recommended for adults, with dosage adjustment in severe renal impairment
Children Dosage
- 8 mg/kg/day for children, dosage based on age and body weight
Typhoid Dosage for Children
- 5 mg/kg body weight twice daily for 10-14 days
Renal Impairment Dosage
- Dose adjustment for patients with creatinine clearance less than 20 ml/min
Interaction with Anticoagulant Therapy
- May increase prothrombin times

- Hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics

- Gastric Lavage may be indicated

- Not significantly removed by dialysis
