Indications

Pharmacology

• Bactericidal action against a broad spectrum of gram positive and gram negative bacteria
• Interferes with the synthesis of bacterial cell wall

Dosage & Administration

• Usual course of treatment is 7-14 days
• Adult dosage is 200-400 mg daily based on infection severity
• Children dosage varies by age and weight
• Dosage adjustment in severe renal impairment

Interaction

• Increases in prothrombin times in a few patients
• Caution with anticoagulant therapy

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics
