Pharmacology
- Bactericidal action against a broad spectrum of gram positive and gram negative bacteria
- Interferes with the synthesis of bacterial cell wall
Dosage & Administration
- Usual course of treatment is 7-14 days
- Adult dosage is 200-400 mg daily based on infection severity
- Children dosage varies by age and weight
- Dosage adjustment in severe renal impairment
Interaction
- Increases in prothrombin times in a few patients
- Caution with anticoagulant therapy
