Description

  • Cefesta is an orally active cephalosporin antibiotic with marked bactericidal activity against a wide variety of Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms.

Indications

  • Upper Respiratory Tract Infections
  • Lower Respiratory Tract Infections
  • Urinary Tract Infections

Bactericidal activity

  • Wide spectrum of bactericidal activity

Absorption

  • Approximately 40-50% absorption with or without food

Pharmacology

  • Bactericidal action by interfering with bacterial cell wall synthesis
  • Stable in the presence of Beta-lactamase enzyme

Recommended adult dosage

  • 200-400 mg daily, as a single dose or in divided doses according to severity of infection

Recommended child dosage

  • 8 mg/kg/day for children
  • Specific daily doses for different age groups

Dosage for typhoid

  • 5 mg/kg body weight twice daily for 10-14 days

Dosage adjustment renal impairment

  • Dose should not exceed 200 mg once daily when creatinine clearance is less than 20 ml/min
