Pharmacology

  • Third Generation Semisynthetic Cephalosporin Antibiotic
  • Bactericidal action against broad spectrum of bacteria

  • High stability in the presence of Beta-lactamase enzymes
  • Approximately 40-50% absorption rate with or without food

Dosage & Administration

  • Usual course of treatment is 7 days, may be continued up to 14 days if required
  • Recommended adult dosage is 200-400 mg daily, adjusted according to severity of infection
  • Recommended dosage for children is 8 mg/kg/day
  • Specific dosage recommendations for typhoid treatment
  • Dosage adjustments for elderly and patients with renal impairment

Interaction

  • Potential increase in prothrombin times in some patients
