Pharmacology
- Third Generation Semisynthetic Cephalosporin Antibiotic
- Bactericidal action against broad spectrum of bacteria
- Interferes in the synthesis of bacterial cell wall
- High stability in the presence of Beta-lactamase enzymes
- Approximately 40-50% absorption rate with or without food
Dosage & Administration
- Usual course of treatment is 7 days, may be continued up to 14 days if required
- Recommended adult dosage is 200-400 mg daily, adjusted according to severity of infection
- Recommended dosage for children is 8 mg/kg/day
- Specific dosage recommendations for typhoid treatment
- Dosage adjustments for elderly and patients with renal impairment
Interaction
- Potential increase in prothrombin times in some patients
- Caution advised in patients receiving anticoagulant therapy
