Indications

Treatment of upper respiratory tract infections, lower respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections

Pharmacology

Bactericidal against a broad spectrum of gram positive and gram negative bacteria

DosageAndAdministration

  • UsualCourse: 7 days
  • RecommendedAdultDosage:
    • 200-400 mg daily
    • Single dose or in two divided doses
  • RecommendedChildrenDosage: 8 mg/kg/day administered as a single dose or in two divided doses
  • DosageInRenalImpairment: Normal dose and schedule may be given in patients with creatinine clearances of 20 ml/min or greater

Interaction

Increases in prothrombin times have been noted in a few patients, particularly in those receiving anticoagulant therapy

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics
