Description
- Indications:
- Upper Respiratory Tract Infections (URTI)
- Lower Respiratory Tract Infections
- Urinary Tract Infections
- Pharmacology: Bactericidal against a broad spectrum of gram positive and gram negative bacteria
- Dosage & Administration:
- Adults and children over 10 years: 200-400 mg daily
- Elderly: Same dose as recommended for adults, dosage adjustment in severe renal impairment
- Children: 8 mg/kg/day administered as a single dose or in two divided doses
- In typhoid: 5 mg/kg body weight twice daily for 10-14 days
- Dosage in Renal Impairment: Normal dose and schedule may be given in patients with creatinine clearances of 20 ml/min or greater
- Interaction: Increases in prothrombin times noted in some patients receiving anticoagulant therapy
- Contraindications: Known hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics
