Description
Cefmix is an orally active cephalosporin antibiotic with bactericidal activity against a wide variety of Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms. It is indicated for the treatment of various acute infections with susceptibility to Cefixime.
Dosage
Usual adult dosage is 200-400 mg daily. For children, the recommended dosage varies based on age and weight. It is absorbed at about 40-50% whether administered with or without food.
Mode of Action
Cefixime kills bacteria by interfering in the synthesis of bacterial cell wall. It is highly stable in the presence of Beta-lactamase enzyme.
Storage Conditions
The suspension should be kept below 30°C temperature, protected from light and moisture, and out of the reach of children.

Interaction
Increases in prothrombin times have been noted in a few patients. Care should be taken in patients receiving anticoagulant therapy.
Contraindications
Not to be used by patients with known hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Precautions & Warnings
Given with caution to patients with known hypersensitivity to other drugs and penicillin-sensitive patients. Administered with caution in patients with markedly impaired renal function.
Overdose Effects
Gastric Lavage may be indicated; no specific antidote exists. Adverse reactions at high doses did not differ significantly from recommended doses.
