Indications

  • Treatment of upper respiratory tract infections (URTI)
  • Treatment of lower respiratory tract infections
  • Treatment of urinary tract infections (UTI)

Pharmacology

  • Bactericidal action against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria
  • Interferes with bacterial cell wall synthesis
  • Stable in the presence of beta-lactamase enzyme

Dosage & Administration

  • Usual course of treatment is 7 days, may be extended to 14 days if required
  • Recommended adult dosage is 200-400 mg daily
  • Dosage for children based on age and weight
  • Dosage adjustment in severe renal impairment

Interaction

  • Potential increase in prothrombin times in patients receiving anticoagulant therapy

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics
