Description
- Excef is an orally active cephalosporin antibiotic with bactericidal activity against a wide variety of Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms.
Indications
- Treatment of Upper Respiratory Tract Infections (URTI)
- Treatment of Lower Respiratory Tract Infections
- Treatment of Urinary Tract Infections
Pharmacology
- Bactericidal against a broad spectrum of gram positive and gram negative bacteria
- Interferes in the synthesis of bacterial cell wall
Dosage & Administration
- Usual course of treatment is 7 days
- Recommended adult dosage is 200-400 mg daily
- Recommended children dosage is 8 mg/kg/day
Interaction
- Potential for increases in prothrombin times in few patients
- Careful use in patients receiving anticoagulant therapy
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics

- Mild and self-limiting gastrointestinal disturbances
- Central nervous system effects like headache and dizziness
