Indications

Mode of Action

  • Bactericidal activity against a broad spectrum of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria
  • Interferes in the synthesis of bacterial cell wall
  • Highly stable in the presence of beta-lactamase enzyme

Dosage and Administration

  • Usual course of treatment is 7 days
  • Dosage varies for adults, elderly, and children based on severity of infection
  • Absorption is not significantly modified by the presence of food

Interaction

  • May increase prothrombin times in some patients
  • Needs caution when given to patients receiving anticoagulant therapy
