Mode of Action
- Bactericidal activity against a broad spectrum of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria
- Interferes in the synthesis of bacterial cell wall
- Highly stable in the presence of beta-lactamase enzyme
Dosage and Administration
- Usual course of treatment is 7 days
- Dosage varies for adults, elderly, and children based on severity of infection
- Absorption is not significantly modified by the presence of food
Interaction
- May increase prothrombin times in some patients
- Needs caution when given to patients receiving anticoagulant therapy
