Description
Orally active cephalosporin antibiotic with bactericidal activity against a wide variety of Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms.
Indications
- Upper Respiratory Tract Infections
- Lower Respiratory Tract Infections
- Urinary Tract Infections
Pharmacology
Bactericidal against a broad spectrum of gram positive and gram negative bacteria at easily achievable plasma concentrations.
DosageAndAdministration
- Usual course of treatment is 7-14 days
- Adults: 200-400 mg daily
- Elderly: Same dose as recommended for adults
- Children: 8 mg/kg/day
- Typhoid in children: 5 mg/kg body weight twice daily for 10-14 days
- Renal Impairment: Adjusted dosage based on creatinine clearance
Interaction
Increases in prothrombin times noted in some patients; caution in patients receiving anticoagulant therapy.

Hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics
