Indications

  • Treatment of Upper Respiratory Tract Infections (URTI)
  • Treatment of Lower Respiratory Tract Infections
  • Treatment of Urinary Tract Infections

Pharmacology

  • Bactericidal activity against a broad spectrum of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria
  • Interference in the synthesis of bacterial cell wall
  • Stability in the presence of Beta-lactamase enzyme

Dosage & Administration

  • Usual course of treatment is 7 days
  • Usual adult dosage is 200-400 mg daily
  • Recommended dosage for children

Interaction

  • Increases in prothrombin times in some patients
  • Care required in patients receiving anticoagulant therapy

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics
