Absorption

  • About 40% to 50% whether administered with or without food

RecommendedDosage

  • 200-400 mg daily for adults
  • 8 mg/kg/day for children
  • 200-400 mg daily for elderly

RenalImpairmentDosage

  • Adjust dosage in severe renal impairment
  • Dose not to exceed 200 mg once daily with creatinine clearance less than 20 ml/min

Interaction

  • Increases in prothrombin times have been noted in a few patients
  • Care should be taken in patients receiving anticoagulant therapy

  • Known hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics
