Description

  • Rofixim is an orally active cephalosporin antibiotic for the treatment of a wide range of infections caused by susceptible microorganisms.

Indications

  • Upper Respiratory Tract Infections
  • Lower Respiratory Tract Infections
  • Urinary Tract Infections

Pharmacology

  • Bactericidal against a broad spectrum of gram positive and gram negative bacteria
  • Interferes in the synthesis of bacterial cell wall
  • Stable in the presence of Beta-lactamase enzyme
  • Absorption about 40-50% with or without food

Dosage & Administration

  • Usual course of treatment is 7 days, may be continued for up to 14 days if required
  • Recommended adult dosage: 200-400 mg daily
  • Pediatric dosage: 8 mg/kg/day, specific doses for different age groups
  • Dosage in Renal Impairment

Interaction

  • Increases in prothrombin times noted, caution in patients receiving anticoagulant therapy

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics

  • Not removed in significant quantities by hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis
