Indications

  • Orally active cephalosporin antibiotic
  • Bactericidal activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms
  • Treatment for upper respiratory tract infections
  • Treatment for urinary tract infections
  • High stability in the presence of beta-lactamase enzymes

Pharmacology

  • Third generation semisynthetic cephalosporin antibiotic
  • Bactericidal against broad spectrum of bacteria
  • Interferes in synthesis of bacterial cell wall
  • High stability in presence of Beta-lactamase enzyme
  • Absorption approximately 40-50%
  • Absorption not significantly modified by food

Dosage & Administration

  • Usual course of treatment is 7 days
  • Recommended adult dosage 200-400 mg daily
  • Dosage adjustments for renal impairment

Interaction

  • Potential for increasing prothrombin times
