Description
- Orally active cephalosporin antibiotic
- Bactericidal against a wide variety of Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms
- Marked in-vitro bactericidal activity
- Used for acute infections caused by susceptible microorganisms
- Treatment for Upper Respiratory Tract Infections (URTI)
- Treatment for Lower Respiratory Tract Infections
- Treatment for Urinary Tract Infections
- Highly stable in the presence of beta-lactamase enzymes
- Bactericidal against a broad spectrum of gram positive and gram negative bacteria
- Interferes in the synthesis of bacterial cell wall
- Usual treatment course is 7 days, extendable up to 14 days if required
- Recommended dosage for adults and children over 10 years
- Usable in typhoid with recommended children dose
- Dosage for children aged less than 6 months is not established
- Usable in the presence of impaired renal function
- Increases in prothrombin times noted in some patients
- Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics
- Majority of adverse reactions observed in clinical trials were mild and self-limiting
- Caution to be exercised when administered to pregnant or nursing women
- Should be given with caution to patients who have shown hypersensitivity to other drugs
- Partial cross-allergenicity between penicillins and cephalosporins
- General precaution for usage in patients with markedly impaired renal function
- Gastric Lavage may be indicated in case of overdose
- Storage conditions: Keep below 30°C temperature, protected from light & moisture, and out of reach of children
