Description

An orally active cephalosporin antibiotic with bactericidal activity against a wide variety of Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms.

Indications

  • Upper Respiratory Tract Infections
  • Lower Respiratory Tract Infections
  • Urinary Tract Infections

Pharmacology

Bactericidal against a broad spectrum of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria by interfering in the synthesis of bacterial cell wall.

Dosage and administration

Adult dosage of 200-400 mg daily for 7-14 days, dosage varies for children and in typhoid; caution in presence of impaired renal function.

Interaction

  • Increases in prothrombin times noted in some patients
  • Caution with anticoagulant therapy

  • Hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics
