Indications

  • Treatment of upper respiratory tract infections (URTI)
  • Treatment of lower respiratory tract infections
  • Treatment of urinary tract infections

Pharmacology

  • Orally active cephalosporin antibiotic
  • Bactericidal against a wide variety of Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms
  • Interferes with bacterial cell wall synthesis

Dosage & Administration

  • Usual course of treatment is 7 days
  • Recommended adult dosage is 200-400 mg daily
  • Dosage adjustments in elderly and children based on severity of infection
  • Dosage adjustments in renal impairment

Interaction

  • Potential interaction with anticoagulant therapy

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics
