Orally active cephalosporin antibiotic
Bactericidal activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms
Indicated for upper respiratory tract infections, lower respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, and more
Highly stable in the presence of beta-lactamase enzymes
Third generation semisynthetic cephalosporin antibiotic for oral administration
Bactericidal against a broad spectrum of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria
Interferes in the synthesis of bacterial cell wall
Usual course of treatment is 7 days, may be continued up to 14 days if required
Recommended adult dosage is 200-400 mg daily according to the severity of the infection
Dosage adjustment in severe renal impairment
Caution advised for patients receiving anticoagulant therapy
Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics
Mild and self-limiting adverse reactions observed in clinical trials
Side effects include gastrointestinal disturbances, headache, dizziness, hypersensitivity reactions, thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, and more
Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed, caution in nursing women
Use with caution in patients with hypersensitivity to other drugs, penicillin-sensitive patients, and markedly impaired renal function
No specific antidote for overdose, not removed in significant quantities by dialysis
