Indications
- Treatment of Upper Respiratory Tract Infections (URTI)

Pharmacology
- Bactericidal activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria
- Interferes with the synthesis of bacterial cell wall
- High stability in the presence of Beta-lactamase enzyme
Dosage & Administration
- Usual course of treatment is 7 days
- Recommended adult dosage is 200-400 mg daily
- Recommended children dosage is 8 mg/kg/day
Interaction
- Increases in prothrombin times noted in some patients
- Careful when used with anticoagulant therapy
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics
Side Effects
- Mild and self-limiting adverse reactions
- Gastrointestinal disturbances: diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain
- Central nervous system effects: headache, dizziness
Pregnancy & Lactation
- No adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women
- Caution advised during pregnancy and lactation

- Careful use in penicillin-sensitive patients
