Indications

  • Treatment of upper respiratory tract infections
  • Treatment of lower respiratory tract infections
  • Treatment of urinary tract infections

Pharmacology

  • Bactericidal action against a broad spectrum of bacteria
  • Interference in bacterial cell wall synthesis
  • Stable in the presence of Beta-lactamase enzyme
  • Approximately 40% to 50% absorption with or without food

Dosage & Administration

  • Usual course of treatment is 7 days, may be continued for up to 14 days if required
  • Recommended adult dosage is 200-400 mg daily according to the severity of the infection
  • Recommended dosage for children varies with age and weight
  • Dosing adjustments for elderly and patients with renal impairment

Interaction

  • Potential increase in prothrombin times in some patients receiving anticoagulant therapy

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics
