Dosage and Administration
- Adult dosage: 1 gm every 12 hourly for mild to moderate infections
- Varied dosage based on severity and sensitivity of causative organisms
- Children dosage: 100-150 mg/kg/day
- Increased dosage for severe infections
- Neonates dosage: 50 mg/kg/day
- Gonorrhoea dosage: 500 mg as a single dose
Interaction
- Increased nephrotoxicity when combined with aminoglycoside antibiotics
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to cefotaxime or cephalosporin antibiotics

- Not established safety in human pregnancy

- Caution in individuals with gastrointestinal disease
- Reduced dosage for patients with renal insufficiency
- No necessity of changing dosage in patients with profound renal dysfunction
Use in Special Populations
- Reduced dosage in severe renal failure
- Further dosage adjustment based on infection course and patient's general condition
