Description
- Cefobid is indicated for the treatment of infections caused by susceptible microorganisms
- An oral third generation cephalosporin with good stability to beta-lactamases and activity against Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria

Dosage administration
- Pharyngitis/tonsillitis: 100mg 12 hourly for 5 to 10 days
- Acute maxillary sinusitis: 200mg 12 hourly for 10 days
- Community-acquired pneumonia: 200mg 12 hourly for 14 days
- Acute bacterial exacerbations of chronic bronchitis: 200mg 12 hourly for 10 days
- Skin and skin structure: 400mg 12 hourly for 7 to 14 days
- Uncomplicated urinary tract infection: 100mg 12 hourly for 7 days
- Uncomplicated gonorrhea: single dose of 200mg
- Rectal gonococcal infections in women: single dose of 200mg
- Dosing adjustments for patients with renal dysfunction
- No dose adjustment for patients with liver cirrhosis
Interaction
- Antacids may reduce peak plasma level and extent of absorption
- Probenecid may increase renal excretion of cefpodoxime
- Close monitoring of renal function advised when administered concomitantly with nephrotoxic drugs

- Known allergy to Cefpodoxime or cephalosporin group of antibiotics

Pregnancy lactation
- Not teratogenic or embryocidal in animal trials
- Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed
- Excreted in human milk, decision should be made whether to discontinue breastfeeding or the drug
Precautions warnings
- Reduced total daily dose in case of renal insufficiency
- Caution in patients receiving concurrent treatment with potent diuretics
- Prolonged use may result in overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms

Reconstitution
- Add 30 ml of cooled boiled water to the dry mixture in the bottle
- Shake the suspension well before each use
- Store reconstituted suspension in a cool and dry place, preferably in the refrigerator
- Unused portion should be discarded after 14 days
